The Storyteller Review :

The Storyteller Based on the short story Golpo Boliye Tarini Khuro, Satyajit Ray’s story begins in the beautiful lanes and holiest corners of Calcutta. The story revolves around Ratan Goradia (Adil Hussain), an Ahmedabad-based businessman who is battling insomnia and is looking for a storyteller to help him sleep and tell him stories at bedtime.

Kolkata Bengalis are very fond of this and you will find a storyteller in every household. Tarini Bandopadhyay (Paresh Rawal) is a talented storyteller from Kolkata who never writes stories for fear of criticism; his only passion is telling stories.

He is excellent as a Bengali who loves maachh (fish) and puja (Durga Puja) and grabs every opportunity to bash capitalism.Adil Hussain A business tycoon who has everything except sleep Tarini Bandopadhyay leaves Kolkata and starts a new stint in Ahmedabad and meets Ratan Garodia, an Ahmedabad businessman. When Tarini tells him stories of a hundred-year-old tree in the Aravalli forests and a spy pigeon during World War II, Garodia’s true intentions begin to surface and he submits Tarini’s stories as his own in a local Gujarati magazine to impress his ex-girlfriend Saraswati (Revathi),Tarini has said a special line on plagiarism “Copying also requires intelligence”.

She says this line to Adil when he steals her literary stories. Adil is also trying to present himself as an intellectual. What will Tarini do when Adil publishes Tarini’s stories in his name? How did you like The Storyteller Review? Do comment.

Star Performance : The Storyteller Review

Paresh Rawal as The Storyteller Tarini Bandopadhyay is a talented storyteller and has tried to impress everyone with his acting and has beautifully presented his line on plagiarism “Nakal ke liye bhi akal chahiye” Ratan Goradia as the businessman Adil Hussain is equally impressive as the insecure businessman as Tarini Bandopadhyay and has presented himself as an intellectual. Revathi as the storyteller has tried to impress with her role even with less screen time. Jayesh More has played an important role as the servant Manik Chand.

Analysis

The Storyteller Review : The Storyteller is co-written by Kireet Khurana and directed by Anant Narayan Mahadevan (also the writer) which is very slow paced. It seems like an old fashioned story. It has tried to highlight the culture of Kolkata through the beautiful streets and roads and the beautiful views of Ahmedabad captivate the audience. The editing and cinematography have been done very well.

Why watch it? If you have a habit of listening to stories and sleeping at night, then this movie is best for you. This movie is not for all the audiences, especially for the youth because they like to watch romance and action movies.

Conclusion

The Storyteller is a film about people who listen to stories. This film focuses on two people with different ideas. One is the storyteller and the other is the listener. But when the story takes a twist, the entire credit of the story is given to the listener. This can also be called plagiarism.
