The story begins with a woman entering the Indian Embassy in Pakistan and finding herself in a serious crisis. JP Singh (John Abraham), the special commissioner of the Indian Embassy, is the deputy high commissioner. Uzma Ahmed (Sadia Khateeb) is deceived into marriage in Pakistan, held captive and sexually assaulted and beaten by her husband Tahir (Jagjit Sandhu). JP Singh interrogates the woman, which leads to a huge diplomatic standoff.
The case escalates against the backdrop of a change in Indo-Pak relations and the intervention of the International Court of Justice in the case of accused RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhav. When JP Singh investigates the matter and takes the woman to Pakistan, one of the most compelling moments is when he reaches the Wagah-Attari border where Tahir and his gang are chasing him. He is also helped in this by the tireless efforts of the then Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj (Revathi).

The Diplomat Movie Review : Director Shivam Nair’s The Diplomat brings to life a true story, with John Abraham in the lead role as JP Singh, the Deputy High Commissioner. Lead actor John Abraham is a departure from his norm in this story. Abraham sheds his action hero persona and plays the role of a tough guy who works by the rules.
You may have rarely seen John in this type of hero before. John has given a great performance as Uzma Ahmed. Sadiya Khateeb as Uzma Ahmed plays a sexually exploited woman very well. Revathi as Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj makes an impact even in her short time. Jagjit Sandhu as Uzma’s husband Tahir, Kumud Mishra as Uzma’s lawyer have also done a good job.
Analysis
The Diplomat Movie Review : This is a drama film which is built up slowly from the beginning with Ritesh Shah’s screenplay and Nair’s direction. The film started well with Uzma being questioned at the Pakistan-India embassy. However, the story keeps the audience glued to their seats till the end as The Diplomat maintains its suspense, establishing the horrific reality of Uzma’s captivity. Which seems to be based on a very good incident on screen. The film also shows the oppressive reality for women in conflict zones which makes it more interesting. One of the most compelling moments of the film is the suspense till the Wagah-Attari border, in which Tahir and his gang are chasing Uzma while going to India.
Why watch it? This is for those viewers who want to watch action and romance filled movies, however, the tense scenes are shown in such an entertaining and suspenseful way that you will be forced to watch it with bated breath.

Overall, it can be said about the story of The Diplomat that it is based on a true incident in which an Indian Deputy High Commissioner tries to save a woman from pressure and sexual exploitation and bring her back to India.
